Mary Hagedorn Obituary

Mary Ann Hagedorn was born on July 1st, 1948 and passed away on April
8th, 2023, at the age of 74.
She is survived by her son, Philip (girlfriend Alberta) and two
grandchildren, Stephanie (fiance Zach) and Julie, as well as cousins,
nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends.
Mary Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Grace Hatcher
Morris, and two siblings, Richard (Dick) Hatcher and Peggy Morris.
She was born in Iowa Falls, Iowa and was raised in Grand Island,
Nebraska. Mary Ann resided in Lyons, Illinois for the last 45 years.
Mary Ann worked at the BNSF railroad in various positions for 42 years.
She retired in March of 2009. After retirement Mary Ann lovingly devoted
herself to the Special Olympics as a coach for many sports and support
staff for countless athletes and events. She was deeply involved with and a member of Westchester Bible Church. Whether a women's Bible study, Vacation Bible School summer
program (usually volunteering in crafts), or the Awana program (working
with preschoolers) Mary Ann was an inspiration and comfort to all. Her
favorite hobby was sewing, primarily quilting in addition to a variety
of smaller projects. Mary Ann's heart was in Erickson, Nebraska. There
she spent the hot summer months at her lakeside cabin. Her
granddaughters would often go with her. She has many friends in the
community where she enjoyed Bible studies and quilting circles. The
highlight of the summer, for every one, is the Fourth of July golf cart
parade! Mary Ann was the primary organizer of the parade and was regularly
asked to be the Grand Marshall. Mary Ann had a passion for traveling to
all sorts of fantastic places, including Branson, Missouri, with a group
of energetic friends and family. She is dearly missed, now and forever.
