Marie Vachata

Marie M. Vachata, former Mayor and a lifelong resident of Lyons, passed away 9/25/2021 peacefully in her home with her family by her side.  Marie was born to Otto & Mae Hnilo in Lyons, Il.  She is survived by her husband, Richard Vachata, her children Debra (Ed) McChrystal, Richard (Andrea) Vachata, Dawn (John) Ourada, grandchildren the late Eddie McChrystal, Jennifer McChrystal, Paige (Anthony) Seidel, Taylor (Ben) Larson, Krysta Ourada, Hailey (Nick) Cartwright, Kayci Ourada, great grandchildren Alisha & Anthony McChrystal, Ava, Luca & Leo Seidel, Hudson & Joslyn Larson, Hadley Cartwright, sister Carol (Bob) Neuberg, nephews & nieces.  Marie has done more in her life than most people combined.  She PROUDLY served her community for over 50 years, which includes serving as Sokol Central District President, Sokol Stickney President, Women’s Director, Manager, Treasurer, served many years helping with Mother’s Club of Lyons, Lyons Lions Club, Seniors Group, served as a school  board member for the District 103 Board of Education, served as a Lyons Village Trustee for 8 years and served as Village President/Mayor of Lyons from 2001-2005.  She received the Cook County Youth Service Award and Cook County Unsung Heroine Award. She had the honor of being President of the Engelbert Humperdinck fan club, which afforded her to spend time with Englebert personally. She was a 50-year member of her Poker Club and a friend to all.  Marie has been called up to bigger and better journey’s in her next chapter and will undoubtedly ruffle feathers, rattle some cages and probably move mountains in Heaven.
