Jack Waiting Obituary

Jack Louis Waiting was born on Sunday, November 16, 1952, at 12:46 pm in Berwyn, Illinois. He died on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 9:05 am in Glendale, Arizona. Jack attended George Washington Grammar School and Morton West High School. He graduated from George Williams College with an associate degree in accounting. He worked at Jefferson Smurfit-Stone company as an accountant. At various times he worked at Atomic Welding & Machine shop doing machine work for his father. He worked at the Grand Canyon Council for the Boy Scouts of America in Phoenix, Arizona. Jack also was as a greeter at Home Depot and lastly at Walmart. His interest in Boy Scouts started with Troop 79 and then Pack 79 in Lyons. He went on to be a den leader and pack leader with Lyons and continued to Phoenix, Arizona with the Grand Canyon Council of Boy Scouts of America. At nighttime camp he oversaw registration and computer input. While in the scouts, Jack earned the Silver Beaver award and the Order of the Arrow award. One of his major accomplishments was a 50-mile hike. For what some people would consider the physical problems he had with his legs (from cerebral palsy at birth) as a handicap, Jack just accepted it as part of his life and never complained. Many times, after falling, he would get up and continue as if nothing ever happened. Jack was devoted to his religion. Starting at Zion Lutheran in Lyons, Illinois as a child to Trinity Lutheran in Lisle to Cleveland, Tennessee and lastly to St Mark in Phoenix, Arizona. He was very involved in all four churches from a greeter, reader, communion assistant, to a Stephen Minister and Training Leader. As well as a facilitator with Celebrate Recovery. He lived by the Boy Scout Law. He was Chicago White Sox FANATIC and sports enthusiast! If he could not be at Comiskey Park, he would watch television or listen to the radio. And of course, he always kept the box score for every game sometime more than one at the same time! While attending a home game in Detroit, Jack was so BOISTEROUS that Don, Jay and Ed thought they would be thrown out of the stadium. Luckily that did NOT happen. Robert J Waiting, his father, and Ruth P Waiting, his mother, preceded Jack in death. Along with his cats Simon, Alvin, Theodore, Max and Rusty, his dog. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary V (Goergen) Waiting, his siblings: Roberta J Waiting (Donald) Bussau, John J (Jeannie) Waiting, Janice L Waiting (Mark) Toomey; his nieces and nephews: Laurie M Bussau (Thomas) Mason, Lisa M Bussau (Jason) Brown, Edward J Waiting, Matthew J Toomey, Nathan K Brown, Anna M Brown, Audrey K Mason, and Cole T Mason. Also surviving Jack are his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Greg and Joan Goergen and nieces and nephews: Kristopher Goergen, Jennifer Goergen (Christopher) Boyer, Kyle Goergen, Jack Boyer, and Zoey Boyer. Jack never missed an important event for his family. There were always calls, cards and gifts for every celebration. He often called to say grace for Thanksgiving or Christmas meals just to be included whether in Tennessee or Arizona! He was ALWAYS there ANYTIME for his nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He will be missed by his family, friends and many who knew him from the churches, boy scouts and Lions Club. He never met a stranger. The only people were friends he had not yet met. Everywhere he went someone knew him or he knew someone. ALL who knew him LOVED him.
