Gilberta Gomez Obituary

Gilberta Gomez (née Castro), lovingly known as Mama Gil, age 86, passed away on January 18, 2026, in Illinois, surrounded by family. She was born on February 4, 1939, in Coacoyula de Alvares, Guerrero, Mexico, to Teresa Castro and Ricardo Castro.  Mama Gil was the heart of her family and a woman whose life was defined by love, laughter, and devotion. She was married to her beloved husband, Francisco Gomez, for 67 years, since 1959, a partnership rooted in family, strength, and love.  She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Gilberta is survived by her children, Raul, Cervanda, Jenni, Quiquis, Maribel, Paco, and Elvis; 26 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren, all of whom were the pride and joy of her life. She will be reunited in heaven with her beloved son Pablo, daughters Elsa and Eloisa, and her grandson Danny.  Known for her warmth and humor, Gilberta was truly the life of every party, often found on the dance floor, smiling and laughing, surrounded by those she loved. She had a deep love for cooking, gardening, and time spent with her large family, extended relatives, and the many friends she made along the way. Her home and heart were always open.  A wake will be held on January 23, 2026, from 3:00–8:00 PM, with family-only visitation from 2:00–3:00 PM, at Tower Home For Funerals and Cremation, located at 4007 Joliet Ave, Lyons, IL 60534. The funeral service will be held the following day, privately.  Mama Gil lived a full and beautiful life, always surrounded by love.  Her legacy of joy, resilience, and unwavering devotion to family will live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Mama Gil, your love was our foundation, your laughter our joy, and your presence our home. We will carry you with us always. 

Gilberta Gomez (née Castro), cariñosamente conocida como Mama Gil, falleció en paz el 18 de enero de 2026 en Illinois, rodeada de amor, a la edad de 86 años. Nació el 4 de febrero de 1939 en Coacoyula de Alvares, Guerrero, México, hija de Teresa Castro y Ricardo Castro.  Gilberta fue el corazón de su familia y una mujer cuya vida estuvo definida por el amor, la alegría y la entrega incondicional. Estuvo casada con su amado esposo, Fransisco Gomez, durante 67 años, desde 1959, formando una unión basada en la familia, la fortaleza y un compromiso eterno.  Fue una madre, abuela y bisabuela dedicada. Gilberta deja a sus hijos Raul, Cervanda, Jenni, Quiquis, Maribel, Paco y Elvis; 26 nietos; y 29 bisnietos, quienes fueron el orgullo y la mayor alegría de su vida. Se reunirá en el cielo con su amado hijo Pablo, sus hijas Elsa y Eloisa, y su nieto Danny. Conocida por su calidez y sentido del humor, Gilberta era verdaderamente el alma de todas las fiestas—siempre en la pista de baile, sonriendo y riendo, rodeada de las personas que amaba. Le encantaba cocinar, cuidar su jardín y bailar. Disfrutaba profundamente pasar tiempo con su numerosa familia, su familia extendida y los muchos amigos que hizo a lo largo de su vida. Su hogar y su corazón siempre estuvieron abiertos.  El velorio se llevará a cabo el 23 de enero de 2026, de 3:00 p.m. a 8:00 p.m., con visita solo para la familia de 2:00 p.m. a 3:00 p.m., en Tower Home For Funerals and Cremation, ubicado en 4007 Joliet Ave, Lyons, IL 60534. El servicio funerario se realizará de manera privada al día siguiente.  Mama Gil vivió una vida plena y hermosa, siempre rodeada de amor. Su legado de alegría, fortaleza y devoción inquebrantable por su familia vivirá para siempre en los corazones de quienes tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla.
