Allen H Schiefelbein Jr. Age 79 of Hinsdale. Beloved husband of Joan nee Bortman; loving father of Chad (Kim), Adam (Lisa Tang) and the late Brett; Fond grandfather of Laken, Cole, Charlotte, and Carissa. Allen married Joan on July 20, 1969. The same day Apollo 11 landed on the moon for the first time in history. Only child to Rose and Allen Sr. Paternal grandparents immigrated from Germany and Italy. Maternal grandparents immigrated from Czechoslovakia. Raised in Lyons, Illinois. Lived in Lyons, Riverside, Hinsdale and at his summer home on Klinger Lake in White Pigeon, Michigan.
Graduated from Luther HS in ‘64. Graduated from Valparaiso University School of Business with BS in ‘68. Was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Attended one year of law school at Chicago-Kent Law School. Worked jobs as a truck driver for uncle and father, then went to Worsham Mortuary School and became a licensed embalmer and funeral home director. A short time later went into the financial services and life insurance business. Was an agent for Mutual Benefit Life Insurance. Obtained CLU, ChFC and other securities licenses. Member and manager of several financial associations including Million Dollar Round Table for highly successful people in the insurance business. Became General Agent of Mutual Benefit. Mutual Benefit was sold and became General Agent of Mass Mutual until he “retired” in 2000. Continued to service select clients as agent until his passing. Served on Loyola University’s Family Business Council. Was also a successful entrepreneur owning a Häagen-Dazs franchise with his fraternity brother, Mac, and two electrical contracting companies, Lyons and Pinner Electric, with his cousin, Bill.
