Ovejean Mark Obituary

           Ovejean (Jean) Mark was born May 6, 1931 in Rowan County Kentucky. Jean's father was Elmer Hinton and her mother was Myrtle (Brown) Hinton, both from Kentucky. She had a brother Gentry who died as a child. Jean also has a surviving sister, Virginia Collins of Daleville, Indiana.

            At an early age, Jean and her parents moved to New Castle, Indiana where she attended school and was baptized at St. Anne Catholic Church. She married Gordon Gibson and they had one son, Duane Allen Gibson. Gordon died in an automobile accident in 1956.

            Jean worked at Indiana Bell for a number of years up until 1958. She married Phillip E. Mark that same year at St. Anne Catholic Church. Phillip preceded her in death in 2012. Jean and Phillip lived in several different locations during their marriage. They had three daughters: Toni Louise, Anita Marie, and Rebecca Jean. After raising her three daughters, Jean returned back to work for GTE, now Verizon, until her retirement. She and Phillip retired in Lyons, Illinois in 2005.

            In retirement, Jean loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jean's first born daughter, Toni Mark Hicks, preceded Jean in death in 2018. She is survived by her son, Duane A. Gibson and his wife, Melanie; her daughters, Anita M. Mark and Rebecca Jean-Mark Gacki and her husband, John as well as Toni's husband, Kevin Hicks. Jean is also survived by her grandchildren Christian Gibson, Kyle Gibson and his wife Amanda, Cara (Gibson) Horner and her husband, Kirk; Kody Gibson, Audrey Hicks and Casey Hicks. Jean is also survived by her five great grandchildren Kierstan Gibson, Trevor Gibson, Cassidy Gibson, Callie Gibson and Clayton Gibson.

            There will be a graveside burial in New Castle, Indiana at South Mound Cemetery/West Lawn Addition on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:30am (Section 5, #99, plots 3&4). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the following:
