Dorothy Lange Obituary

Dorothy “Dot” Lange Born Dorothy Elizabeth Richard, January 15, 1930 at Hotel Dieu Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana to Joseph Charles Richard & Elizabeth Ellen (Betty) Reilly. Blessed in childhood with a wonderful sister, Patricia Ann, in November of 1932. Growing up in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Dot & Pat won several baby & child beauty pageants and enjoyed performing in community & school dance productions as well as celebrating the yearly festivals & parades surrounding Mardi Gras. Dorothy graduated St. Mary of the Angels Grade School in 1945, Francis T. Nicholls High School in 1949 and earned a Certificate in Stenographics from South-Western Business College in 1951 before moving north to Lyons, Illinois in 1957 to work at Material Service Corporation and nanny her goddaughter, Debra Ann while sister Pat was working. While living there she met and fell in love with Marvin Elmer Lange, a lifetime resident of Lyons. She was confirmed in Faith at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church (Lyons) in March of 1958 and married Marvin there on December 13th of that same year. Through those early years they were very active at Zion and loved singing in the church choir. October 3, 1963 brought Dotty & Marv there first and only child – a son – Glenn Louis. From 1982 to 1999, she adored and pampered their only pet, Kitty Katt. And BOY-O-BOY did she love “General Hospital”…watching it religiously from its debut in 1963 to her passing in 2018. After Marvin’s passing in 2002, she lived with Glenn & his wife Terese (Terri) until a brief hospitalization before her own passing. Dorothy passed very peacefully on December 1, 2018 with Glenn holding her hand & Terri at her side. Throughout her life, Dotty was a devout Lutheran, a devoted wife and a caring mother. She loved life and people, always seeking others’ happiness & approval, while wearing a smile that beamed like a spotlight in the dark. Preceded in passing by her loving husband Marvin and parents Joseph & Elizabeth, Dorothy is survived by her son Glenn, daughter-in-law Terese (Jungblut), her sister Patricia and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews & great-nieces. We know, without doubt, that she rests safely and comfortably in the arms of Jesus.
