Elaine B. (Bortman) Snella

Elaine B. Snella September 11, 1931 - February 20, 2020 

Elaine Bortman Snella, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2020.  Loving mother of Deborah (Terrance) Temperly, Pamela (Stephen) Smith, Russell (Barbara) Snella and Cynthia (Azmi) Wandi; cherished grandmother of Christopher (Vanessa) Smith, Matthew Wandi, Nicholas Wandi, Madeleine Snella and Joseph Snella; dearly loved great-grandmother of Gabrielle Smith. Elaine was preceded in death by her beloved husband Raymond Anton Snella.     As a long time resident of Lyons, Elaine was an active member of the community by serving in various positions for the Lyons Community Chest, Friends of Lyons Library, St. Hugh Society of Catholic Women, Women’s Club of Lyons, Lyons Recreation Commission and Lyons Historical Commission. Elaine was also active as a Girl Scout and encouraged and supported her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter in their scouting endeavors. Elaine’s professional career included working as an office professional for Local 150 Operating Engineers, Mansfield Roofing and Roofers Union Local 11.  Elaine enjoyed traveling with her husband Raymond both domestically and internationally and her favorite souvenirs were pieces of jewelry collected through her travels. Visitation will be 3 pm to 8 pm on Friday, February 28 at Tower Home for Funerals, 4007 Joliet Avenue, Lyons.  Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 29 at St. Hugh Catholic Church, 7939 43rd Street, Lyons.  Memorials for Elaine Snella may be directed to Benedictine Sisters of the Sacred Heart, Sacred Heart Monastery, 1910 Maple Ave., Lisle, IL 60532.
